Last week the Mirai Botnet attack on the DYN spawned thousands of articles which exposed the venerability of millions of connected devices. The Internet of Things has never faced this big a challenge before.
The answer lies in isolating the wifi network, changing passwords very frequently, dynamic IP addresses, creating a private VPN network, etc. are few of the instant solutions that could be offered. The morale of the customer had already been very low and with the recent attack has reached the pits.
For the industry to stave off any further attacks of crashing the entire IoT industry, the industry leaders need to come together to create this first cohesive IoT Protocol Standardisation which I had mentioned in my second article even before this attack had taken place.
The IoT is a marriage between automation and connectivity, we need to now introduce one additional member to this marriage which is Artificial Intelligence (AI). Today, AI is on the fringe of IoT but once this threesome is solemnised the progeny would be with a healthy DNA with its own counter effective anti-viral system (antibodies).
I know this may sound like a Sci-Fi kind of an answer but this could be the holistic approach to the future in every space of IoT like healthcare, transportation, smart cities, etc.
