The Internet of Things (IoT) is disrupting every industry vertical creating a storm. It has now begun to revolutionise one of the significant verticals, the ‘Fashion Industry’ amongst the others. A Prediction from Mckinsey shows that the potential global economic impact of IoT offers approximately $4 trillion to $11trillion a year in 2025 with 50 billion devices connected.
This IoT evolution has dramatically influenced the Fashion world in which ‘Personal Grooming’ will become a significant segment especially in the lives of an Individual. I would like to present a Case Study on how the world’s best of the best products and services can be made available within reach of the customer without the customer having to travel the distance using Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR) and 3D imaging technologies.
Let me quote my example here: In the current scenario if I want to get a haircut from the best hair stylist in London. I will have to physically go to London and meet the hairstylist who is then going to demo various haircuts suitable for me and based on the choice I make he will cut my hair accordingly. This is the current model.
The Future which I envision is that I need not have to travel to London for my haircut physically. Using the AR & VR and the sensors the hairstylist based in London can create a 3D image by mapping my head to develop suitable haircuts which are best fit for my face. The beauty salons will have their hair-cutting franchise across the globe with hair-cutting booths and robotic arms which will be giving my haircut based on the style that I choose.
I will thereby be the happiest and the most satisfied individual having gotten my haircut from my favourite hairstylist without moving cities. Just imagine the same “IoT Magic” can be applied to other segments in the world of Fashion. I will be sharing a series of different possible case studies in this domain.
To summarise, the IoT Magic is going to transcend all Industry Verticals and seep into our everyday lives which will appear as a Sci-fi. Hence, the Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality and 3D Imaging technologies will revolutionise the world of Fashion Industry.
