Humans have long cherished the sweet scent of fragrant flowers as a symbol of beauty and serenity. However, the effects of climate change are rapidly altering the growth, fragrance, and survival of these delicate blooms. As a lover of flowers and an advocate for environmental sustainability, I am deeply concerned about the impact of climate change on fragrant flowers. This is why I have chosen to write this article, to shed light on this critical issue and raise awareness about the urgent need for action to mitigate the damage.

Every time I travel to my village, where I am establishing the Mythistical Holistic Centre of Excellence, on my way back, I would stop for a coffee break in Krishnagiri, the “Mango Capital of India” known for its horticulture. Here I have been buying from an old man and his family, selling jasmine flowers for many years. My heart filled with anticipation, eager to inhale the sweet fragrance of the blooms. But as I drew closer, my heart sank at the sight before me. The once-vibrant petals were now limp and lifeless, their sweet scent replaced by a sickly aroma. Tears welled in my eyes as I realized the toll of climate change on this precious flower.

I felt a deep sense of loss as if a piece of my soul had been ripped away. The sight of these wilted flowers, so symbolic of my cultural heritage, left me feeling emotionally drained and helpless. At that moment, I vowed to do everything in my power to protect and preserve these delicate flowers for generations to come and ensure their legacy would never fade away.

Unfortunately, the effects of climate change are threatening the natural fragrance of these flowers. They are used to adorn the Gods, perfumes, cosmetics, and culinary creations. However, the impact of climate change is causing significant changes in the growth, fragrance, and survival of these delicate blooms. Rising temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and shifting precipitation are leading to alterations in the floral industry and our environment.

For example, India’s jasmine trade, like a delicate flower, has been impacted by the winds of climate change. As the country’s temperatures rise and precipitation patterns shift, the once-lush jasmine fields are now struggling to bloom. The scent of these fragrant flowers, so deeply intertwined with the cultural and traditional values of the people, now hangs in the balance. For generations, the sweet aroma of jasmine has been woven into the tapestry of Indian life, used in religious ceremonies, weddings, and other celebrations. It’s a symbol of love, purity, and goodwill, a fragrant reminder of the country’s rich heritage. But now, as the effects of climate change threaten this delicate flower, the people of India are faced with a difficult choice: to let their cultural traditions wilt or to find new ways to preserve and protect this precious resource.

Through this Foundation, I hope to inspire others to take action and make a difference in their own communities.

It is crucial that we work together to tackle climate change and create a more sustainable future for ourselves and the planet. Every action counts, and it’s time for each one of us to step up and do our part.
