The Internet of Things (IoT) is a disconnected reality. There are thousands of organization across the world racing towards providing this unrealistic platform.
The two main problems associated with IoT is, the security and finding the right customer. Security can be addressed through technology but the customer cannot be addressed without a proper solution.
A smart plug is an expensive replacement from a regular plug. A customer does not see value in replacing his existing conventional plug with a smart plug as the cost of replacement to a smart plug does not add-up.
Similarly installing an IoT hub in all middle-class homes doesn’t ease the burden of investment on the householder.
Healthcare or Transportation industries need to have an enhance infrastructure to adapt these transformational technologies.
For example, in the healthcare industry there is a huge investment required for developing the right types of wearables in order for the patients to be connected at all times to the healthcare IoT Infrastructure.
Similarly, in the transportation sector there is a need for a robust end-to-end IoT solution to integrate the various aspects of the transportation services and infrastructure which requires a massive investment.
However, the various challenges faced by the industries cannot be met by a single technology solution provider. OEM manufacturers of IoT gateways along with the System Integrators have to contend with many protocols due to non-standardization leading to Interoperability issues.
Even though the companies have cut down the cost of the gateways and devices but still they are unable to lower the cost of the end-to-end IoT solutions as the major component of analyzing the data through Big Data and Analytics is still at an infancy stage.
In my future articles I will be sharing more insights of how the Industry challenges can be addressed within the IoT space.
